Top 15 Favourite Films

Trainspotting (1996)

Rarely do films ever do the book justice. In this case, I think it’s a very good adaptation of a book that really didn’t scream “film-ready” when I read it. The casting is great, too. This may have been the film that made me fall in love with Ewan McGregor.

High Fidelity (2000)

Again, usually film versions of books are terrible, but this one is just really fun. There have been some changes from the book (location, for one) but it’s definitely in the same spirit as the book.

Say Anything (1989)

I have a lot of John Cusack on my list. My adoration for him is no secret. Say Anything breaks my heart every time, and gets mended back together every time I see Lloyd holding up that boombox and blasting Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”

Stand By Me (1986)

My best friend in elementary school introduced me to this film, and we would watch it constantly. I had a crush on Wil Wheaton. I kind of still do. (This film features bonus Cusack, too!)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

I love British humour. It’s more my style, and this film never fails to crack me up.

Donnie Darko (2001)

I  love  films that are weird and make you think, “What the hell just happened?” when you’re through watching them. This one is one of those films, and I love it. It was my first introduction to Jake Gyllenhaal. Thank you, Donnie Darko.

Blue Velvet (1986)

I love David Lynch. I really do. I also love Kyle MacLachlan. And, I love Dennis Hopper, and so this film is made of awesome.

Wayne’s World (1992)

There are very few American comedies that make me laugh, and Wayne’s World is one of them. It’s not too slapstick, and it’s not too “dumb.” I was a fan of the Wayne’s World skits on Saturday Night Live, and I really didn’t think the film adaptation would be very good. I was wrong. Wayne’s World 2 is surprisingly funny, too.

Batman (1989)

I was obsessed with this film when it came out. I think this is was sparked my fascination with Batman. I blame Michael Keaton. I also think this may be the coolest Batmobile, too. Also, despite what people say, Jack Nicholson is the best Joker. I love Heath Ledger, but my heart belongs to Jack Nicholson.

Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)

Yeah, more John Cusack, I know. This film is darkly funny, and I love it. Joan Cusack is great in it as well. I love it when there’s more than one Cusack in a film.

A Hard Day’s  Night (1964)

I think I’ve seen this film roughly 5,498 times. I frigging love The Beatles.

The Labyrinth (1986)

David Bowie + Jim Henson = LOVE.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

This film never fails to make me cry. It’s so beautiful, and Johnny Depp is so amazing in this film.

Star Trek (2009)

I don’t know how they did it, but they managed to make a movie about Star Trek that’s interesting and exciting for people who know nothing about Star Trek.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)

I love the original Star Wars trilogy, but I like this one best. Maybe because it’s the first one I ever saw?
